A kiss for Justin as Jen's 'wildest dream' comes true

Luckily the actress, who shed a tear during her acceptance speech, was supported by the two leading men in her life – her father John and her boyfriend Justin Theroux.

The pair have kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight over the past nine months, but Jennifer couldn't resist giving her beau a kiss.

And there was also a peck on the cheek for her dad, who proudly looked on beside Justin.

Days of Our Lives star John – who was born on the Greek island of Crete – has in the past said he would love Jennifer to settle down with a nice Greek boy.

But he has been won over by Jen's American boyfriend, saying: "He's a charming young man" and "they make a wonderful couple".

The 78-year-old actor also revealed he and his wife get together with the cute couple whenever they can.

Jennifer is clearly in a great place right now. Of her star honour, the 43-year-old said: "It probably wasn't even a dream, it was one of my wildest dreams.

"I don't think that I ever even thought that this would be here, this day. So I am utterly humbled and grateful."

Jennifer, pretty in a patterned Tom Ford dress, was joined by her Her Just Go With It co-star Adam Sandler, who couldn't resist making some wisecracks.

"She prayed for three things: to have everyone in the entire world be fascinated with her hair, to one day star in a movie about an evil leprechaun who kills people," he said – referring to her little-known role in 1993 horror film Leprechaun.

"And most importantly, receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame. Well, today, Jennifer, the trifecta is here."

Susan Boyle has a flipping good time on Pancake Day

22 FEBRUARY 2012 Susan Boyle had a flipping great time this week – but it was all in the name of charity.

The Britain's Got Talent megastar showed off some impressive pancake tossing skills as she turned chef for a day.

Susan joined Cardinal Keith O'Brien – the leader of the Catholic Church in Scotland – and catering students at St Augustine's High School in Edinburgh.

She also revealed she was giving up chocolate for Lent.

The choir singer turned global superstar was raising awareness of Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund's (Sciaf) Wee Box, Big Change fundraising campaign.

It calls on people to give up their favourite treat during Lent and put the money they save in a Sciaf "wee box". The cash is then used to help tackle poverty in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Other Scottish celebs such as actor Robert Carlyle, entrepreneur Michelle Mone and Old Firm managers Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist are also taking part in the campaign.

Susan said: "Sciaf and its work with people living in poverty in developing countries is really close to my heart and always has been. I'm happy that I'm now in a position to help them more than I used to be able to.

"It's going to be really tough giving up chocolate for Lent again, so it was great to tuck into a small feast with the young people today. It's been great fun and I know every penny raised from the Wee Box, Big Change campaign will help people in need."

Sciaf said the money raised will provide seeds, tools and training for farmers, and education and skills training to people in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Prince Johan Friso may never come out of coma

24 FEBRUARY 2012 Doctors have said Prince Johan Friso of the Netherlands may never regain consciousness after a skiing accident during which he was buried under an avalanche.

During a press conference on Friday officials revealed he was trapped under the snow for 25 minutes. It took a further 50 minutes for him to be resuscitated.

An MRI scan was performed on Thursday, which indicated the prince suffered large amounts of brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

Doctors cannot say when the prince will come out of his coma, if at all. It may be months or even years.

The royal family are now looking for a rehabilitation centre where he can receive further treatment.

The accident happened last Friday while he was skiing off piste in the Austrian resort of Lech – where the Dutch royals traditionally take their winter break.

A childhood friend, who was with him at the time, survived because he was wearing avalanche airbag.

Florian Moosbrugger, reportedly dug his friend out with his own hands and called the emergency services, the Austrian Times reports.

He was questioned by police about which of the skiers went down the slope first, and how the avalanche began.

The 43-year-old prince has been unconscious and fighting for his life ever since he was airlifted to safety.

Friso is the second son of the reigning Queen Beatrix and her late husband Prince Claus.

He has no claims on the Dutch throne after giving up his place in the line of succession to marry his wife Princess Mabel, now 43.

Parliament refused to approve the match after she admitted misleading the government about her alleged relationship with underworld boss Klaas Bruinsma – a well known figure in drug trade.

The couple married in 2004 and have two daughters – Luana, seven, and six-year-old Zaria.

Businessman Johan currently works as a Chief Financial Officer for a uranium enrichment company called URENCO.

He studied mechanical engineering at the University of California and also has a degree in economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and an MBA from the European Institute of Business Administration.

Kelly to design own Oscar gown as stars choose outfits

Apparently, the new trend in Tinseltown is to design your own awards ceremony dress.

Rihanna took the lead at the Grammys with her self-created Armani gown, and now Kelly Osbourne is helping to fashion her own Oscars frock.

While the 27-year-old won’t disclose the designer she is working with, she has hinted that it will be a colourful outfit.

"The fun of getting dressed up for an award show is almost getting lost," she said. "And I think for me, that novelty will never wear off. I love it.

“With the Oscars, I just hope that it’s a lot more colourful, put it that way."

Designer David Meister, who has dressed the likes of Kim Kardashian and Sofia Vergara, agrees.

"If you're wearing bright colours, you'll pop more and that's important in a photograph," he said.

Other stars are more concerned with finding a gown they feel and look comfortable in.

Finding the right dress is “very important,” best actress nominee Viola Davis said recently. “I don't want to look bad."

“I want to look like I belong on the red carpet and I'm comfortable on the red carpet and that I'm stepping into the role that has come to me at this point in my life and it's reflective of me and who I am as a woman of a certain age and of colour.

“I always want it to be me at my best. Not trying to put on a mask. Just me."

Fellow nominee Rooney Mara is on the same wavelength.

"I don't think about it in terms of what people say or like or think. I try to find something that I feel comfortable in. I do like fashion, but if it's not comfortable, I won't wear it," she says.

Tributes pour in for 'the man who loved to make people laugh'

23 FEBRUARY 2012

The world of showbiz has been celebrating the life of Frank Carson, who has died at the age of 85.

The Belfast-born comedian, who underwent an operation for stomach cancer last year, died surrounded by his family at his home in Blackpool.

The comic, famous for his catchphrase "It's a cracker", rose to fame in the 1960s after winning talent show Opportunity Knocks three times, and went on to appear in The Comedians and Tiswas.

His friend and television presenter Eamonn Holmes said: "The term legend is often overused - but Frank Carson was a legend and we will never ever see his like again."

Comedian Ken Dodd described his "good friend" as a "jolly jester" who had the "fantastic gift of making people happy".

Speaking of their relationship, the Liverpudlian, who first met Frank in the 1960s, added: "He had a big, warm personality and was a wonderful man who was a joy to work with."

Chris Tarrant, who appeared alongside Frank on Tiswas, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "He was the funniest man I have met in my life and would tell jokes relentlessly - there was not anyone like him."

Sir Bruce Forsyth told ITV News: "The only trouble with Frank, as far as I'm concerned, is that he made me laugh too much.

He'll be remembered as the one and only Frank Carson - the man who loved to make people laugh."

Frank's son Tony paid his own heartfelt tribute to his father and said the family felt it was only right that he was buried in his home town of Belfast. "He was good dad, right up to the end he was very good," said his son.

"He just had such a positive outlook on everything. There was definitely a child within and he just wanted to have fun and give fun to everybody."

23 FEBRUARY 2012

Their Milan show might have been dark, but it was far from dreary.

With the Oscars just days away, Italian powerhouse Gucci unveiled an ultra glamorous array of floor-length, billowing dresses in midnight hues.

"This is modern-day romanticism," designer Frida Giannini said. "A dramatic sensuality, a dark glamour with subtle tones of provocative intellect."

The offerings in black, forest green and plum had been designed with decadence in mind – fur, silk, velvet and leather all adorned Edwardian-esque layered ensembles.

The sultry show kicked off Milan Fashion Week, following on from the headline-grabbings antics of London.

Plum lipstick, leather capes and moody lighting all complemented the noir feel of the presentation.

'Miss Catherine' reveals name of royal puppy

22 FEBRUARY 2012 Up until now the information has been kept strictly under wraps, with aides instructed not to give the game away.

But what the world's press failed to discover, children at an Oxfordshire school found out without too much trouble.

Pupils at Rose Hill Primary School learned what the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband have called their new pet, a black cocker spaniel.

When one child gave Kate, 30,  a toy dog to cuddle she said: "Why don't we call it after my dog? He's called Lupo".

The royal had come to publicise the work carried out of the charity, The Art Room, in her capacity as patron.

Buoyed by the success of her previous solo engagements, Kate looked confident as she chatted and shook hands with well-wishers.

And in keeping with the art theme, she showed her talent for diplomatic dressing by donning a coat-dress by Irish designer Orla Kiely, aptly known as the queen of prints.

Her dress, which was reduced from £325 to £162.50 in the sales, ended up with a blob of red paint on the cuff in an arts class.

The school's little charges were asked to read Edward Lear's poem The Owl and the Pussycat to their VIP guest, and then paint pictures inspired by the story.

And the mishap happened when Kate, a History of Art graduate, got stuck in wearing an apron embroidered with the name 'Miss Catherine'.

Her attitude won praise from Lisa Hancock, the charity's manager at the school.

"She seemed to have as much fun as the children and seemed very relaxed. She had all the right language and was very calm and gentle."

The Art Room charity uses creative therapy to raise self esteem and independence amongst disadvantaged children and teenagers.

Its founder and director, Julie Beattie, described it as "one of the smallest charities in the country" and is thrilled that the Kate is helping raise its profile.

After her first stop, the Duchess headed to Oxford Spires Academy School where the organisation also has facilites and runs workshops.

New York based Princess Madeleine moves in with financier boyfriend

23 FEBRUARY 2012

Princess Madeleine of Sweden is ready to take her relationship with boyfriend Chris O’Neill to the next level.

According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Madeleine and Chris will move into a four-bedroom luxury apartment in Manhattan together.

The Princess moved to New York almost two years ago to start over after splitting from her fiancé and boyfriend of eight years, Jonas Bergström.

Her ex was last seen with his new girlfriend, Stephanie af Klerker, an old friend of Madeleine’s, at the wedding of Robin af Byren and Tin-Tin Rosén:

Emma Pernald, Prince Carl Philip's ex, and her new boyfriend Tomas Jonson also attended the nuptials.

Although financial adviser Chris has been properly introduced to the royal family, the news of Madeleine moving in with him apparently hasn't gone down too well with her parents.

With eldest daughter Crown Princess Victoria now on maternity leave, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia were hoping Madeleine would take over some of her duties, but her permanent residency in the US means this will prove difficult.

According to Expressen, Madeleine has told her parents she does not want to take over any of her sister’s duties and has no intention of leaving New York where she has forged a new life for herself.

Academy plays down Sacha Baron Cohen Oscars 'ban'

Oscar bosses have denied that they've banned Sacha Baron Cohen from attending the awards after he apparently hatched a plan to turn up as his latest big-screen alter-ego.

The comedian was reported to have had his tickets rescinded because he wanted to walk down the red carpet dressed up as spoof character General Aladeen from his new movie The Dictator - before changing into a tuxedo for the ceremony.

An Academy Awards spokesperson said: "We haven't banned him. We're just waiting to hear what he's going to do.

"We don't think (the stunt) is appropriate ... but his tickets haven't been pulled. We're waiting to hear back."

Sacha, who was invited to attend the Oscars as a cast member of best picture nominee Hugo, has a history of pulling stunts at awards ceremonies.

He flew through the air at the MTV Movie Awards and landed with his bare backside on Eminem's face - in a fake mishap - to promote his character Bruno in 2009.

In 2006 he arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival as Borat on a carriage pulled by 'peasant women'.

24 FEBRUARY 2012

Singer-songwriter Gary Barlow is teaming up with musical maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber to create a song for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

And the pair are aiming to 'Rule The World' by scouring locations around the globe to find other artists to perform with them.

The song will be performed at the star-studded Diamond Jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace on June 4.

In preparation, the Take That star will embark on an epic journey around the Commonwealth to discover what the Queen means to different people. His trip will feature in an hour-long documentary to be screened by BBC One.

Gary and composer Andrew will also aim to incorporate different musical traditions into the song which will feature artists and contributors from the UK and Commonwealth. They could include international names and unknowns from remote villages.

The X Factor judge's journey will see him travel to the Caribbean, Africa, the Pacific Islands and Australasia.

He said: "This is probably the biggest challenge I've ever taken on musically. I'm so excited and thrilled to be a part of it."

Andrew added: "It is a huge honour to be involved in this historic occasion and I am looking forward very much to working with Gary."

The song-writing project was announced on Radio 2's Chris Evans show on Friday.

Gary is a favourite amongst the royals so it is no suprise he has been approached to co-write a song for the ocassion.

He has been heavily involved in the Prince's Trust and staged a concert to raise funds for the charity.

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William all attended the event.

Gary's also been asked by the royal household to help organise the Diamond Jubilee concert  - which has now attracted more than one million ticket applications - featuring performances by Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John.

Sweden prepares to welcome heir with 42 gun salute

22 FEBRUARY 2012 The first birth in the Swedish royal family for nearly three decade will be marked with some fanfare.

As Princess Victoria made a glowing final appearance along with her husband Daniel before welcoming their little prince or princess, the palace revealed details of the planned celebrations.

"It's been a very rough year. It hurts very much to see your parents written about in a harsh way," admitted the future queen in a TV interview.

Although, Victoria, 34, added that it had "strengthened" their ties as a family.
